The Beam is Gone, Fireplace is Replaced, & Walls are Ready for Paint

This week the mudding continued on all the drywall in the house. They are cranking through it because the cabinetry will be arriving next week. Hooray!!!!

We had to decide what texture we wanted on the walls and we chose the smoothest option, called orange peel. 🍊 Our builder also does curved corners on the corners of walls and cased openings, which we actually like.

The other big development this week is that the beam was removed. Why did we have to remove it? Well, as we got into the building process, we realized that rather than use this heavy beam, we could do scissor trusses in the ceiling and not have that heavy thing literally hanging over our head.

We also realized that our builder had put the same sized fireplace in the great room as the living room and master bedroom. Ooops – hey, that was supposed to be a larger firebox in the great room than in the other rooms. So, sorry, but we needed them to yank out the old, smaller firebox.

Our chimneys also were capped, and finished this week.

Finally, the barn’s exterior is almost done as they worked on the soffit of the barn and cut openings for the light fixtures.

This weekend we will be deciding interior paint colors and stain colors for the cabinetry and exterior doors. Speaking of doors, we also ordered our interior doors, which will take 4 weeks to arrive.

So next we will post some paint samples as we get them on the sample boards. Let’s see what y’all like!

Thanks for stopping by! Hugs, Libby
